We Go Full Volume With Our Q+A
The best part of this promotion and plugging gig really is the people on the receiving end. We have had many laughs with Callum, Full Volume founder, and always look forward to hearing what's plugging his ear-holes. If you are looking for a place to find new music, we highly recommend checking out Full Volume.
We caught up with Callum and had a little tête-à-tête and this is how it went...
How did you get into music?
I do not recall a specific time I got into music; it has just always been a part of my life. My dad has always played instruments and I remember in my earliest days listening to all the music he would play from his huge CD collection, bands such as Metallica and Iron Maiden. I also remember when I got my first job, in my home town of Ashbourne at the age of 14. The first thing I ever bought with my money was a My Chemical Romance single that I cherished with all my life, and from that point onwards I fell in love with music and got my hands on any CDs I possibly could!
What is the absolute belter that makes you stop everything and shout along?
I am going to have to go with The Chain by Fleetwood Mac, how can anyone not sing along to that? The riffs are unreal, and the Rumours album is for sure one of the greatest ever made.
You get to plan a trip for Adam Reeve of Sounds Good Blog: Where will you go?
We would go on a romantic holiday for two to Skegness, England, where we would play on the slot machines with fish and chips whilst watching the sunrise.
How will you get there?
I will organise for us to travel via Victorian horse and carriage.
Who else knows?
No one knows, especially not his girlfriend.
What are some items you must bring with you?
Headphones are necessary, and of course, any form of technology that we can use to keep bringing the amazing music to everyone’s ears through Sounds Good and Full Volume!
When do you surprise him?
I will surprise him when he hits the amazing 1500 follower milestone on his twitter; he deserves it.
What are the two major influences behind starting Full Volume?
I would say one was definitely being at University. I had a lot of free time in which I would just sit and listen to all kinds of music, new albums, old singles, anything and everything. And if there is one thing I love to do that stems from listening to music, it’s to talk about music, and what better to do than create my own platform that people can read about the music I love! I also think that a big influence for me was the fact that not everyone I knew enjoyed the music I listened to, so to create a place where I can write about the music I am listening to was a no brainer, especially with a great community around music that love every genre going!
You have one chance to get it right, what is IT?
I would like to think, that one day I could turn Full Volume into something more than just an internet platform. A magazine, podcast, maybe even a show or festival involving music I love, and whatever it develops into, I would want to get it completely right and make it the best thing ever, something I could be extremely proud of.
What are your top five concerts?
My top 5 would have to be as follows:
1. Kendrick Lamar
2.Tyler, The Creator
3. Red Hot Chili Peppers
4. Beans on Toast
5. Rex Orange County
List 4 albums you cannot live without and others should adopt into their collections:
I could list so many albums. If I were to choose four to listen to forever more, I would go for:
1. Fleetwood Mac – Rumours
2. Frank Ocean – Channel Orange
3. Mystery Jets – Radlands
43 Kanye West - The Life of Pablo
You have a chance to put on a festival, who do you invite to play and why?
Honestly my own festival would be the dream, if anything was possible I would obviously love to invite all my favourite artists of all genres, Sampha, The Streets, Tame Impala, there are so many I could choose. I would also love to invite some of the many bands and artists that I have featured on Full Volume for their incredible music that would be so cool. If I were to choose a headliner that I think is absolutely smashing it right now, I would have to go for Sam Fender, how class would that be!
